Hi do you have a glue suitable for fixing crystals onto acrylic nail please

administrator

Hi Marilyn I would probably opt for a nail glue or UV gel although gemtac will certainly work, apply your 2/3 coats leaving each layer to dry between coats and then apply your crystals with gemtac. You can then apply a clear coat of nail polish over the crystals to protect them.

Hi, Can I use this to glue some swarowski crystals onto hosiery? I have a pair of sheer black tights I would like to embellish. Would this be suitable for such sheer fabric? Would it be wash proof? Thanks!

administrator

Hi Yes you can use gemtac glue, its a good idea to put a sheet of plastic inside so that any glue seeping through won't stick the front and back of the tights together. You can use card but if you leave it in while the glue dries the card can stick to the glue. As regards washing gemtac is fine on a low heat wash but does tend to soften in the wash so you have to take care when it comes out of the machine. As the glue cools it re hardens and the bond becomes stronger. E6000 or hotfix crystals don't have the same problem. Have a look at http://www.crystalandglassbeads.com/blog/2014/hotfix-vs-non-hotfix-crystals-clothing.html it's a machine wash test on the different adhesives. Hope this helps.

I want to put on fabric wipe it up shiny or matte? I will not see the glue underneath Swarovski stones ???? Regards Bettina

You can use for fabric yes. have a look at our post on our blog to see how the various adhesives cope with machine washes. If the glue dries around the fabric it will be shiny .

Is Gemtac dishwasher safe?

administrator

Hi Anne-Marie I would say no. Dishwasher water temperature is between 50 and 75 °C which will soften the glue. Have a look at our washing machine test here : http://www.crystalandglassbeads.com/blog/2014/hotfix-vs-non-hotfix-crystals-clothing.html

What glue is better for adding rhinestones to a wine glass this or E6000?

administrator

Hi Trudy You can use either. I have tested both on glass and both work well. e6000 is a lot thicker the advantage is that it wont run but has nasty fumes. Gemtac has no nasty fumes and is self levelling but a lot thinner than e6000 so if its a new bottle you have to apply the adhesive leave it to thicken for a minute or 2 on the bottom row and then apply the crystals. If you don't leave the adhesive thicken then the crystals will run if the surface is curved. Once the first row is applied there is nowhere for the crystals to slide : ). You can view a tutorial on our blog where we use gemtac for crystallizing a glass.
